Design in the Details

Why didn’t I think of this?

Color by COLOURlovers

COLOURlovers is one of my favorite resources for… well… color. Here is the description pasted straight from the site:

COLOURlovers™ is a resource that monitors and influences color
trends. COLOURlovers gives the people who use color – whether for
ad campaigns, product design, or in architectural specification –
a place to check out a world of color, compare color palettes, submit
news and comments, and read color related articles and interviews.

This is a GREAT resource for anybody interested in any sort of design–be it interior, website, architectual. The site has three main functions: Color, Pattern, and Palette creation. The pattern is more of a novelty thing for me (they use many of the patterns from Squid Fingers so that brings a smile to my face.) But I find the most useful tool to be the palette creator. You can do it with the normal editor or the COPASCO advanced editor. In there, you can import photography and pixelize it to help create custom palettes based off of images. You can then further alter the palette into custom widths which gives it an entirely new feel.

The site has a huge emphasis on sharing which makes complete sense since no one can effectively “own” a color. Before you start your next project, plan your color scheme or browse others for inspiration.
