Design in the Details

Author

I am a graduate student in Visual Studies (think Art History and Film Studies combined and manipulated to address issues in contemporary visual culture.) Although my field of work is a little removed from design specifically, it is something I am always keeping an eye open for innovative ideas. I enjoying looking at the different varieties of cultural borrowing in art, architecture, film, and of course design.

My focus is in Japanese Art so I enjoy incorporating those motifs into my work. I lived in Japan for a year while in undergrad and it was truely a life changing experience for me. It is an interesting and scary feeling to realize that your world is so much bigger than you initially imagined it. My favorite designs usually incorporate some of my photography or old tickets from that year.

I am a graduate student and my life is extremely mobile like some others so I am always trying to find new options for rental decorating to bring color and style into a small space. On such a limited budget, I’ve had to become… crafty.
